Bob Hogan, Director, Veterans' Services, leaving a message to military personnel.
Give Thanks America, a national initiative that allows individuals to record and send video messages of thanks and support via E-mail to U.S. service personnel deployed in harms way and other American heroes, such as firefighters and police officers, was a great success in the Town of Burlington.
The program, which was sponsored by the Burlington Mall, the Department of Defense, as well as Compaq Computers and its affiliates, was offered to all visitors to the Burlington Mall from February 8 through February 17.
The Burlington Office of Veterans' Services became associated with the program in order to get the many volunteers needed to man the station, and Congressman John Tierney, Colonel Joseph Maryeski, Director of ESC at Hanscom AFB, as well as Burlington Selectman Al Fay were pleased to be asked to send the first messages on February 8.
In order to carry out this positive experience, Burlington Veterans' Services sent out over 500 invitations to either volunteer their time or to send a message for the Give Thanks America website.
We were thrilled, but not surprised, with the response to help in any capacity. Every shift was adequately filled, and each of the approximately 60 individuals who came forward appeared to enjoy the experience of interacting with the public to send messages. This office is always extremely grateful for the tremendous support we receive whenever the call goes out.
Thanks you for your continued assistance and God Bless America.
Bob Hogan
