James F. Tighe passed away
at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, August
16, 2005. The husband of 47 years of Josephine “Jody”
(McDermott), he was 75 years old.
Mr. Tighe was born in Wilmington. He
was raised and educated in Woburn. He graduated from St. Charles
Elementary School and was a 1949 graduate of Woburn High School.
He is the son of the late Edward & Catherine Tighe.
Mr. Tighe was a veteran of the Korean
War where he served his country in the United States Navy from
1951 – 1955. After leaving the Navy he went to work at General
Foods in Woburn where he worked for 43 years until his
retirement.
Mr. Tighe and his wife Jody settled in
Burlington in 1958 where they raised their two children. He
enjoyed his home and loved to work in his garden. After his
retirement Mr. Tighe and his wife Jody began to travel. They had
taken two trips to Ireland together. He was an avid walker and
before his health began to decline he would be known to walk up
to 8 miles a day. Mr. Tighe enjoyed watching all the Boston
Sports teams most especially the Boston Bruins.
Mr. Tighe and his wife Jody enjoyed
researching Genealogy together. They were members of the Essex
Society of Genealogy, TIARA (The Irish Ancestral Research
Association), New England Historical Genealogy, and
Massachusetts Middlesex Society.
Mr. Tighe’s family was the most
important part of his life and he treasured the special times he
spent with his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great
granddaughter.
He is the husband of Josephine
“Jody” (McDermott). He is the loving father of David &
his wife Cindy of Burlington and Maureen & her husband Mark
Spence of Billerica. He is the brother of Elinor Tighe of Woburn
and the late Lawrence, Mary, and Jack Tighe. He is the
grandfather of Danielle, Cheryl, Jillian, & Jennifer Tighe,
Matthew & Michael Spence. He is the great grandfather of
Mikayla Cress. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V.
Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt.
128, Woburn side) on Saturday, August 20 at 11 a.m. Visiting
hours Saturday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook
Cemetery, Woburn. Donations in Jim’s name may be Massachusetts
General Hospital, Pulmonary Disease Unit Fund, 165 Cambridge
St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
