Richard J. Powell passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack
on Tuesday night, September 6, 2005 at the Lahey Clinic Medical
Center in Burlington. He was 50 years old. Rich was born
in Arlington. He grew up in Burlington and was a graduate
of Burlington High School Class of 1972. He then went on
to
earn an Associates Degree at Bunker Hill Community College in
Charlestown. He entered the US Navy and served from 1974
to 1978. He was stationed on the USS Nimitz and was the
recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Battle
Efficiency Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal.
Rich was employed with Royalston Realty as a Property manager
for the past 10 years. He enjoyed working on antique cars
and over the years had owned a number of antique and classic
cars. He played and coached adult softball in Malden and
Burlington. He also coached youth softball. He was
an avid bowler and was bowling when he took ill on Tuesday.
He will be greatly missed by his many family, friends, and
teammates. He had resided in Malden for the past 19 years.
Rich is the beloved husband of Debora (Russo). Loving father of
Stacy Powell of Cranston, RI, Michael Powell of Malden, Paul and
Stephen DeBye of Malden. Son of Ethel Powell of Burlington and
the late Carl. Brother of David of Burlington. Son-in-law of
James and Dolores Russo of Burlington. Funeral from the
Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit
34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m.
Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s
Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours
Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
