Joseph Jeremiah Pergamo, a longtime resident of Somerville and
former resident of Burlington passed away at his daughter’s
home after a noble fight with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Pergamo was born in Boston, the son of the late Jeremiah and
Marjorie Pergamo. He grew up and was educated in
Somerville. He enlisted in the Navy only a few days after
his 18th birthday. He served in the end of the
war and several years after the war as a Ship fitter Third
Class.
Mr.
Pergamo made the most of his life. His gregarious nature
made him a natural salesman. He was a long time employee
of Cains and then J & J Distributors, which both sold snack
foods. He also worked as a Bartender at the VFW Post 1012
in Medford and Ma Newman’s in Billerica. He loved
fishing and it thrilled him share this passion with others as an
employee of Walsh’s Deep Sea Fishing Charter Co. He was
a member of the VFW Post 1012 and the American Legion Posts 19
& 388. He continued to make the most his life up until
his final days. He will be greatly missed by his family
and his many friends.

Gary Irving of Merrimack, NH, Michael & his wife Donna of
Plaistow, NH, Richard & his wife Meri of Derry, NH, Suzanne
& her husband Michael Foden of Raymond, NH, and William
& his wife Cheryle of Gardner. Brother of Daniel of Belmont,
Mary Mercer of Burlington, Barbara Francis of Eastport, ME, and
the late John. Former husband of Theresa (Costello) Pergamo.
Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St.,
BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Sept.
6 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St.
Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m.
Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment will be private. Member
of VFW Post 1012 and the American Legion Post 19 & 388.
