       William J. McDonald, III passed away unexpectedly at his home in Columbia S.C. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006. He was 46 years old.
     Bill was born in Boston. He was raised and educated in Burlington and was 1977 graduate of Burlington High School. He then went on to graduate from the Virginia Military Institute located in Lexington, VA. While attending the Institute he played in the band and had the honor of playing during President Ronald Reagan’s Inauguration. After graduation he began his military career where he achieved the rank of Captain. He was an Airborne Ranger Elite. During the service he was stationed in Tacoma WA, Korean  Atlanta, Georgia. Bill was the recipient of the Army Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab. Bill left the military in 1990. He had lived in Atlanta Georgia for 12 years and then had moved to his present home in Columbia, SC three years ago. His most recent position was a Claims Analyst working for the Veterans Administration in Columbia, South Carolina.
     Bill is the son of the late William J. & Virginia L. McDonald. He is the loving brother of Ann D. & her husband Louis Capozzi of Wakefield, Terrence C. of Burlington, Robert J. of Burlington, Janet M. & her husband Jack Donovan of Roselle, IL. He is he uncle of Chelsea, Kevin, and Alison Donovan. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, January 17 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 5-8 p.m. Interment Private. Memorial’s in Bills name may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108
