Harold A. Marvin, Age 82

     Harold A. Marvin, Founder of Burlington Foundry passed away suddenly at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Saturday morning, August 6, 2005. He was 82 years old. He was born in Cambridge the son of Canadian immigrants. He grew up and was educated in Watertown.

     Mr. Marvin joined the Marine Corps in October 19, 1942. He held the rank of Private First Class and saw extensive action in WW II in the South Pacific. He fought the enemy at Bougainville in the British Solomon Islands, Guam, Marianas Islands, and Iwo Jima. It was during the battle at Iwo Jima, that the American Flag was raised on the hill above where he was fighting. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Stars. He was proud to serve his country as a Marine.

      Mr. Marvin founded Burlington Foundry Co. in 1956. He started company with 2 employees and 4 customers and grew the business to a point where he had 19 employees. His company manufactured aluminum sand castings, which were used to produce prototypes and production castings for manufacturers. He retired in 1990 and passed the business on to his children.

     Mr. Marvin had resided in Burlington for 28 years . He had also lived in Andover and Meredith, New Hampshire. For the past 3 years, he had been living in Bow, NH. Mr. Marvin had a strong faith in God. While living in Burlington, he was an active member of the Church of the Open Bible. He served as a Deacon at the church for a number of years. While living in New Hampshire, he was active at the Calvary Independent Bible Church of Tilton, and after moving to southern NH at the Carriage Town Bible Church of Kingston. He knew the importance of family. He had a summer home on Lake Winnisquam, which was a place of many happy times for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     Mr. Marvin is the beloved husband of Margaret (Ellsworth) Marvin. He is the father of Kenneth & his wife Suzanne of Burlington, Karen & her husband Steve Wikman of Burlington, Kathleen & her husband Peter Bergquist of Burlington, Karyl & her husband Jon Paul of Danville , NH, Kurt & his wife Ruth of Pelham, NH, Kimberley & her husband Kenneth Lundquist of Bow, NH, and the late Keith. He is the brother of Lillian Johnson, Carolyn Green, both of Goffstown, NH, the late Dorothy Sherwood Marion Lusk, Gertrude Knight. Bill Marvin, Ernest Marvin, and Walter Marvin. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

     A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Open Bible, 3 Winn St., Burlington on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold’s name may be made to the Carriage Town Bible Church, P.O. Box 848, Kingston, NH, 03848 or the Open Bible Academy, 3 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
