Allan E. Gay, a lifelong resident
of Burlington, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his
family, on Wednesday evening, October 19, 2005. He was 78 years
old. Mr. Gay was born in Boston, the son of the late Thomas
& Mary Gay. He was raised and educated in Burlington.
Mr. Gay was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army in
Germany. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal,
European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medical, and the World
War II Victory Medal.
He continued to support the U.S. Armed
Forces a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV, 113. He was a Past
Commander of the American Legion Post 273, in Burlington. He was
a proud and active member of the “Forty & Eight.”
Mr. Gay had worked as a heavy equipment
operator and truck driver most of his working career. He had
worked a number years at the Burlington Department of Public
Works. He had also worked at Paul Arpin Van Lines and Personal
Moving and Storage. He also worked on the Special Police Force
in Burlington. In his retirement years he had his own small lawn
service.
Mr. Gay’s outgoing personality and
zest for life made him a fun person to be around. He enjoyed
playing cards, horse shoes, or having an outdoor barbeque with
family and friends. He was an avid saltwater fisherman, but also
enjoyed gardening, and taking care of the squirrels in the
neighborhood. He also enjoyed sharing stories with his many
friends at one on the clubs.
Mr. Gay is the beloved husband of 58
years of Evelyn (DuLong) Gay of Burlington. He is the loving
father of James Gay & his wife Theresa of Wilmington, Rita
Daniels & her husband Jamie of Monmouth, IL, Allan Gay, Jr.
& his wife Angie of Bellvue, FL., Elaine Herbert of Lowell
and Cindy Brunelle & her husband Dennis of Burlington. He is
the brother of Charles Gay of Billerica, Mary Lunceford of
Woburn, Elizabeth Gay of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late Thelma
Chaloux, Wally Gay, and Irene DeRosa. He is also survived by 15
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the
Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit
34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, October 22 at 11:30
a.m.. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Interment
with Military Honors will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery,
Burlington. Memorials in Allan’s name may be made to VNA Care
