George E. Delaney, a retired employee
of the E.T. Ryan Iron Works and Zayre’s Department Stores
passed away Thursday afternoon, June 23 at the Hannah Diston
Nursing Home in Haverhill. He was 91 years old. Mr. Delaney was
born in Cambridge the son of the late Mark and Anne Theresa
Delaney. He grew up and was educated in Cambridge. He furthered
his education by attending secretarial school for 2 years. He
served in World War II as a Court Reporter in the Judge Advocate
Office.
Mr. Delaney spent most of his adult
life living in Somerville. He had resided in Haverhill for the
past 12 years. Mr. Delaney had worked as an administrative
assistant for E.T. Ryan Iron Works and Zayres Department Stores.
He was an independent and very self sufficient man. He was a
strong Democrat. He would spend hours each day reading and was
sharp as a tack even in his 90’s.
Mr. Delaney is predeceased by 2 loving
wives, Sylvia (Levine) Delaney and Rose (Figure) Delaney. He is
the brother of Anne Sargent of Olympia, WA, Edward of
Burlington, the late Ita Lonergan, Anselm and Daniel Delaney.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visiting hour will
be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St.,
BURLINGTON (exit 34 of Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, June
25 from 9 to 10 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in
St., Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10:30 a.m.
Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Memorials in
George’s name may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360
