Daniel G. Blaine, a resident of
Burlington for 30 years, passed away at the Sawtelle Hospice
House in Reading on Monday morning, November 14, 2005. He was 81
years old. Mr. Blaine was born, raised and educated in Brooklyn,
New York. He was the son of the late Irving and Ethel
Blasenstein. Mr. Blaine was a graduate of the City College of
New York where he received a degree in business.
Mr. Blaine was a veteran of World War
II serving his country from 1943 – 1946 in the United States
Army. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, the
Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr.
Blaine was employed with Lever Bros. in New York City for over
30 years as a Sales Manager. Mr. Blaine moved from New York to
Burlington in 1975.
Mr. Blaine and his wife of 30 years Jan
(Bourgoin) had a wonderful life together. They traveled
extensively visiting such places as Venezuela, Spain, France,
Canada and Luxemburg. In 1989 he and his wife joined the
“Cactus Division” together, which is an organization for
veterans of World War II and their families. Mrs. Blaine wrote a
book “Without Their Boots” which her husband helped her
research. In the book Mr. Blaine and other Veterans from both
the United States and France shared their experiences of World
War II.
Mr. Blaine was also a talented musician
who enjoyed classical music. One of his many musical talents was
the playing of the chromatic harmonica. Mr. Blaine was a member
of the Simons Lodge of the Masons for many years. Mr. Blaine was
a loving; caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be
missed by his family and his many friends.
Mr. Blaine is the husband of Jeannette
(Bourgoin). He is the loving father of Shelley Blaine Goodman
& her husband Stuart Goodman of Manhattan, NY, Laura Blaine
Pokorny & her husband Robert Pokorny of Long Island, NY,
Linda & her husband Michael Pearl of Nashua, NH, and Cheryl
& her husband Edward Mulvey of Billerica. He is the brother
of the late Herbert Blasenstein. He is also survived by 6
grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V.
Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt.
128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m. Visiting
hours Tuesday 5-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery,
Burlington. Donations in Dan’s name may be made to VNA of
Middlesex-East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Avenue,
Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880
