Erland R. Babcock, a
resident of Burlington for 47 years, passed away at the Sawtelle
Hospice House in Reading on Monday morning, October 10, 2005. He
was 77 years old.
Mr. Babcock was born and raised in
Cambridge. He was the son of the late Renza and Elsie Babcock.
He was a graduate of Ringe Tech in Cambridge.
Mr. Babcock was a Veteran of World War
II. He first served as a Merchant Marine where he sailed the
North Atlantic. He then served his country in the United States
Army where he was the recipient of the World War II Victory
Ribbon.
Mr. Babcock was employed for 23 years
at the University of Lowell where he ran a Television Studio at
the Kitson Building in the College of Engineering. He was also
employed by Lincoln Labs and M.I.T.
Mr. Babcock had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed building
model trains, photography, listening to records and playing
Bingo. He was a member of the Senior Center in Burlington.
Mr. Babcock is the husband of 57 years
of Mary L. (Ingram). He is the loving father of David E. &
his wife Nancy of Nashville, TN and Jean Marie & her husband
Ken Jack of Springfield. He is the brother of the late Leona M.
& her husband Vito Pilvelatis. He is the grandfather of
Michael David Babcock & his wife Jennifer of Lowell, Rebekah
Hope Babcock of Nashville, TN, and the late Victoria Rose
Babcock. He is the Great Grandfather of Jacob Michael Babcock of
Lowell. Funeral Services will be held at the Pine Haven Chapel,
Bedford St., Burlington on Friday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral
Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON, (Ext 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn
side) on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven
Cemetery. Donations in Erland’s name may be made to VNA of
Middlesex-East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Avenue,
Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
